India e-Visa for Argentine Citizens; What to Know Before You Apply!

The Argentine passport opens doors to 168 countries without a queue. It is one of the strongest travel documents in Latin America, granting visa-free or visa-on-arrival access across Europe, most of the Americas, and much of Asia. India is a notable exception. For Argentine citizens, India requires a visa, and that visa must be secured before departure.

The good news is, the process is entirely online. The India e-Visa system accepts applications from Argentine nationals, delivers approval by email, and requires no visit to the Embassy of India in Buenos Aires. What it does require is accuracy, the right documents, and a clear understanding of which category you need before you pay a non-refundable fee.

IVC covers everything, from eligibility and categories to the rules that apply once you land and everything in between.

Argentine Citizens and the India e-Visa | The Starting Point

Argentine nationals require a visa to enter India. There is no visa on arrival and no visa-free arrangement between Argentina and India. Your India e-Visa must be applied for, approved, and received before you board any flight to India.

The Embassy of India in Buenos Aires confirms that Argentine passport holders are eligible for all India e-Visa categories through the official online system. No in-person visit to the Embassy of India in Buenos Aires is required for the India e-Visa process; that channel remains open only for regular sticker visa applications and consular services outside the e-Visa framework.

Exemptions before you begin:

OCI cardholders: if you hold an Overseas Citizen of India card alongside your Argentine passport, you are fully exempt from the India visa requirement. The OCI card grants lifelong, multiple-entry visa-free access to India regardless of which passport you carry.

Diplomatic and official passport holders are not eligible for an India e-Visa. Applications must go through the Embassy of India in Buenos Aires directly.

Citizens with only ordinary and regular passport are eligible.

All Nine India e-Visa Categories; What Each One Actually Covers

The official Indian e-Visa portal lists nine categories. Argentine nationals are eligible for all of them. Here is every category with its confirmed validity, entry allowance, and primary purpose:

▸ India e-Tourist Visa

For holidays, sightseeing, visiting family or friends, short yoga programs, Ayurveda retreats, and recreational short-term courses not exceeding six months. Also covers voluntary work not exceeding one month with no monetary compensation and medical treatment under Indian systems of medicine. Available in three durations:

  1. 30 days: double entry, valid from first arrival date, apply up to 30 days in advance
  2. 1 year: multiple entry, valid from ETA grant date, maximum 180 days within any calendar year
  3. 5 years: multiple entry, valid from ETA grant date, same 180-day annual calendar year cap

▸ India e-Business Visa

For trade visits, business meetings, industrial tours, and commercial activity. Valid for one year from ETA grant, multiple entries, with each continuous stay not exceeding 180 days. Conference attendance is a sub-type (30 days, single entry) requiring prior government clearances. Film production is another sub-type (one year, multiple entries) requiring clearance from India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

▸ India e-Medical Visa

For treatment at a recognized Indian hospital, including Ayurvedic and traditional medicine. Valid for 60 days from first arrival, triple entry. Requires a letter from the treating hospital in India on official letterhead. From April 2025, a system-generated Medical Invitation Letter through the official portal is required alongside the hospital letter.

▸ India e-Medical Attendant Visa

For companions accompanying an e-Medical Visa holder. Maximum two attendants permitted per patient. Validity mirrors the patient's visa — 60 days from first arrival, triple entry.

▸ India e-Student Visa

For Argentine nationals admitted to a recognized Indian educational institution. Valid for one year from ETA grant, four entries. Requires an admission letter from the institution, proof of financial support, and for medical courses, a No Objection Certificate from India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

▸ India e-Family Visa

For dependents of India e-Student Visa holders. Valid for one year from ETA grant, four entries. Mirrors the student's visa conditions.

▸ India e-Transit Visa

For travelers passing through India, to a third country. Valid for 30 days from ETA grant, double entry. Only required if you will exit the airside area and pass through Indian immigration. Travelers remaining in the airside transit zone do not need a transit visa.

▸ India e-Miscellaneous Visa

For persons of Indian origin with documented ties to India through a parent or spouse who is an Indian citizen, a surrendered Indian passport, or an OCI card held by a parent or spouse. Valid for three months from first entry, multiple entries.

▸ India e-Production Investment Visa

For foreign nationals involved in film production or investment activities in India on a longer-term basis. Valid for six months from ETA grant, multiple entries.

Choosing the Right Category; Why It Matters Before You Pay

The most frequent error: applying for an India e-Tourist Visa when the trip has a business component. The e-Tourist Visa explicitly does not cover commercial activity. If any part of your trip involves business meetings, trade visits, or commercial discussions, the India e-Business Visa is the correct category, regardless of how brief the business element appears.

Argentina's growing bilateral relationship with India, both G20 members, with increasing trade through Mercosur-India engagement — means more Argentine travelers combining tourism and business. Each purpose requires its own visa. They cannot be handled under a single category.

Choosing the wrong category is one of the most common and costly India e-Visa application mistakes. The official portal does not catch a purpose mismatch during the application but a human reviewer does. IVC suggests going through such mistakes before submitting your India e-visa application.

What You Need to Apply for an India e-Visa

Documents to upload:

✔️ Valid ordinary Argentine passport with minimum 6 months validity from your India arrival date, at least 2 blank pages for immigration stamps. If your passport was issued within the last 6 months, carry your previous passport to India as well.

✔️ Scanned passport bio page in color PDF, showing your full name, date of birth, nationality, passport number, and expiry date. File size: 10 KB to 300 KB. The portal verifies size and format, not legibility. A dark or blurry scan passes the automated check and fails the human review that follows. High contrast, all four corners visible, full bio page in frame.

✔️ Recent passport photograph in JPEG format, plain white background, no glasses, full face front view, taken within the last six months. File size: 10 KB to 1 MB. Equal height and width. No digital editing, background removal, filters, or retouching permitted. File name in plain alphabets only — no numbers, spaces, or special characters.

✔️ Supporting documents if applicable. A business card and invitation letter from your Indian counterpart (e-Business); hospital letter on Indian hospital letterhead (e-Medical); admission letter and supporting financial documentation (e-Student); clearance letters for conference, film, or mountaineering sub-types.

All documents must be in English, documents in Spanish or any other language are liable for rejection regardless of their content.

What else you need to complete the application:

✔️ Valid email address; your approved ETA is delivered here and nowhere else. Verify the spelling before submitting. A single typo means your India e-Visa goes nowhere.

✔️ Payment card (credit or debit) is required. Argentine passport holders pay no Indian government processing fee across all India e-Visa categories. The government fee is $00 for every category. The 3% bank transaction charge applied by the payment processor on a zero-dollar fee amounts to nothing.

Remember, this does not apply to every other nationality and visa category. Citizens of USA, Brazil and Ghana, all have to pay different respective fees for their India e-visa.

The IVC Visas service fee remains applicable as a separate charge for the preparation, review, and submission assistance provided.

Applying Through IVC Visas - Standard and Express Service

Step 1: Choose your service and application option

IVC Visas offers two service levels.

Standard service is for applicants with ample time before travel; applications are processed within the standard government processing window, currently averaging 8–10 business days.

Express service is for Argentine travelers with tighter departure windows. Your application is prioritized and submitted ahead of standard queue applications on IVC's side. Express service accelerates the preparation and submission but the Indian government's own review timeline is the same for all applicants.

Within both service levels, you may choose:

Option A: IVC Visas completes and submits the full application on your behalf.

Option B: You fill in the form and our team reviews it before submission. Both include a pre-submission photo and document compliance check.

Step 2: Complete the application form

Enter your nationality, visa category, intended travel dates, and passport details. Every name, date of birth, and passport number must match your Argentine passport exactly, character for character. A mismatch between your form and your passport — even one character — is grounds for rejection.

Step 3: Upload your documents

Passport bio page scan and photograph. For business, medical, student, or specialist category applications, upload the relevant supporting document. English only. Plain alphabet file names only. No files with spaces, symbols, or special characters in the name.

Step 4: Pay the India e-Visa fee

Fees vary by category and duration. A 3% bank transaction charge applies additionally. All fees are non-refundable once submitted. Confirm your exact fee before paying.

Step 5: Receive your ETA and prepare to travel

Your approved India e-Visa - ETA arrives by email as a PDF. Download it, print a physical copy, and carry it to India — do not rely on a digital version alone. Before leaving for the airport, confirm your status reads 'GRANTED' on the official portal.

Track your India visa application through IVC Visas at any stage after submission.

Apply at least 2–3 weeks before travel on standard service. If your departure is within two weeks, choose express service.

Every Rule That Applies From the Moment Your ETA Is Approved

📌 Authorized ports of travel

Your India e-Visa is valid for entry only through India's designated international airports, designated seaports, and four designated land ports. Not every airport, port, or land crossing in India is authorized for e-Visa entry. Confirm your specific arrival point against the authorized India entry and exit ports list before booking. You may exit from any authorized Immigration Check Post, you are not restricted to your point of entry for departure.

📌 An approved India e-Visa does not guarantee entry

Your ETA authorizes you to travel to India, it does not guarantee you will be permitted to enter. Immigration officers at the arrival port retain full discretion. Carry your printed ETA, a confirmed return or onward journey ticket, proof of accommodation in India, and proof of sufficient funds for your stay. These are requirements, not formalities.

📌 Complete the e-Arrival Card before boarding; not on arrival

Since April 2026, all foreign nationals and OCI cardholders entering India must complete a digital e-Arrival Card within 72 hours before arrival — via the official portal at indianvisaonline.gov.in or through the Indian Visa Su-Swagatam mobile app. This is mandatory and entirely separate from your India e-Visa. Complete it before you board your flight from Buenos Aires or any connecting city. On arrival in India, your biometrics will be captured and your passport stamped at immigration. Verify that the immigration stamp is affixed before leaving the counter — if it is missing, raise it with the officer before departing the immigration area.

📌 Your visa category defines what you can legally do in India

Every India e-Visa category carries a specific permitted scope of activity. Conducting business on an India e-Tourist Visa, attending a commercial meeting on a transit visa, or working on a student visa are all violations of visa conditions. The consequences under India's Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025 range from denial of re-entry to deportation. The category you apply for must match your actual, declared purpose of travel, on every entry, not just the first.

📌 India e-Visas are non-extendable and non-convertible

Once issued, the category and validity of your India e-Visa cannot be changed, upgraded, or extended. If your circumstances change after arrival, your purpose shifts, your departure is delayed by a genuine emergency, then the only official route is to apply at FRRO before your visa expires. If extension is not granted within validity, you are required to depart. Remaining beyond visa validity without approved extension constitutes an illegal overstay under Indian law. For long-term purposes like employment, research, full-time study, exit India and apply for the appropriate category through the Embassy of India in Buenos Aires.

📌 Pakistani lineage

Argentine nationals whose parents or grandparents were born in or were permanently resident in Pakistan are not eligible for an India e-Visa. A regular visa applied through the Indian Mission is required.

📌 Defence and military background

Individuals with a defence, military, security, or police background whether serving or retired, are not eligible for an India e-Visa. Attempting to enter India on an India e-Visa while suppressing this information may result in denial of entry and deportation.

📌 Religious activity is prohibited on all visa types

All foreign nationals, regardless of India visa category, are prohibited from preaching religious ideologies, speaking at religious gatherings, distributing religious material in any form, or engaging in any conversion-related activity inside India.

📌 Yellow Fever vaccination

If you have departed from or transited through a Yellow Fever endemic country within six days of your India arrival, relevant for Argentine travelers routing through parts of Africa or Central America, you must carry a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate in original. Failure to produce it may result in mandatory quarantine of up to six days on arrival.

📌 Protected and Restricted areas

Your India e-Visa is not valid for visiting Protected Areas, Restricted Areas, or Cantonment Areas. Parts of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh require a Protected Area Permit in addition to your India e-Visa. Apply for this separately and in advance if your itinerary includes these regions.

📌 Same Passport Rule

Travel on the exact passport used when applying. If you have renewed your passport since your ETA was issued, carry both your old and new passports to Indian immigration without exception. Entry is permitted on the new passport provided the old passport with the ETA is presented alongside it.

📌 FRRO Registration

For those on an India e-Business Visa or another category where a continuous stay may extend significantly, FRRO registration is required before the expiry of the 180-day period as per the revised Ministry of Home Affairs notification of June 2026. Registration is not a standard requirement for short-stay tourist visitors.

Buenos Aires to Bangalore | Apply for India e-visa with IVC!

Most Argentine travelers to India fly from Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport, connecting through Madrid, São Paulo, Dubai, or Doha before landing in Delhi, Mumbai, or another of India's designated international airports. The journey takes between 20 and 24 hours depending on routing. It is a significant commitment of time; and one that India consistently delivers on.

October to March is the recommended travel window from Argentina. Argentine travelers have historically gravitated toward Rajasthan's fort cities and desert landscapes — a familiarity with drama, scale, and color that resonates with the Argentine sensibility.

The Golden Triangle remains the most popular first circuit: Delhi for history and chaos, Agra for the Taj Mahal at sunrise, Jaipur for the pink city's layered architecture. From there, many extend to Varanasi and the Ganges, Kerala's backwaters, or Goa for the coast. The Himalayan foothills — Rishikesh, Manali, Dharamsala — increasingly feature in Argentine itineraries, particularly for those interested in yoga, trekking, or meditation.

At IVC Visas, every India e-Visa application is reviewed before it reaches the portal — photo compliance, document accuracy, category selection, name matching against your Argentine passport. On both standard and express service. The India e-Visa fee is non-refundable. A review before submission is the most practical protection against a rejection that costs the full fee with no route back.

India has been waiting. Your India e-Visa is the only step between your Argentine passport and all of it.

✅ Standard and express service available

✅ Pre-submission review on every application
