From the Amazon to the Ganges | India e-Visa Guide for Brazil Passport Holders

Brazil and India share more common ground than geography might suggest. Both are among the world's largest democracies, both are BRICS partners, and both carry a scale and cultural complexity that few other countries match. The bilateral relationship deepened further in February 2026, when Brazil and India formalized a reciprocal 10-year multiple-entry visa agreement, a recognition of how significantly both countries' nationals have been travelling between the two nations.

Despite that strengthening relationship, Brazilian nationals still require a visa before entering India. The convenience: an India e-Visa, applied for entirely online. Here's exactly what that means and how to get it right if you are from Brazil!

Do Brazilian Passport Holders Need an India e-Visa?

There is no visa on arrival and no visa-free access for Brazilian passport holders entering India. Your India e-Visa must be confirmed and received before you board.

What is an India e-visa?

The India e-Visa is applied for at the official Indian government portal and your Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is delivered to your email once approved. No visit to the Embassy of India in Brasília or the Consulate General in São Paulo is required for the this process.

Two important distinctions before you begin:

  1. OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) cardholders holding a Brazilian passport are fully exempt from the India visa requirement. If you hold an OCI card, you do not need to apply.
  2. Diplomatic and official passport holders are not eligible for an India e-Visa and must apply in person through the Embassy of India in Brasília or the Consulate General in São Paulo.

Confirm your eligibility before starting your starting your India e-visa application.

India e-Visa Categories Available to Citizens of Brazil

Brazil is an eligible country for all nine India e-Visa categories. Choosing the right category before applying is critical — the portal does not catch a purpose mismatch, and the fee is non-refundable if a wrong category causes rejection. Here are the categories most relevant to Brazilian:

  1. India e-Tourist Visa: For holidays, sightseeing, visiting friends or family, short yoga programs, Ayurvedic retreats, or recreational short-term courses not exceeding 6 months. Available in three durations:
  2. 30 days: double entry, valid from first arrival
  3. 1 year: multiple entry, max 180 days per calendar year and
  4. 5 years: multiple entry, max 180 days per calendar year
  5. For mountaineering expeditions, a separate e-Tourist sub-type (e-T2V, 6 months, single entry) is available with prior clearance from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation.
  6. India e-Business Visa: For business meetings, trade visits, or any commercial activity. Valid for 1 year, multiple entries, continuous stay per visit not exceeding 180 days. Conference attendance falls under the e-Business Visa (30 days, single entry) and requires clearance from India's Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs.
  7. India e-Medical Visa: For treatment at a recognized Indian hospital, including Ayush (Ayurvedic and traditional medicine) treatment. Valid for 60 days from first arrival, triple entry. Requires a letter from the treating hospital in India on official letterhead.

If you are unsure which category applies to your travel purpose, IVC Visas guides at each step, even choosing the right category for India e-visa.

Five Steps to Apply Through IVC Visas And Receiving ETA

I | Choose your application option

Option A: IVC Visas completes and submits the full India e-Visa application on your behalf.

Option B: You fill in the form and our team reviews it before submission. Both options include a photo and document compliance check before anything reaches the government portal — because a non-refundable fee is a poor price for a preventable mistake.

III | Upload your documents

Passport bio page scan and photograph. For business, medical, conference, or other specialist applications, upload the relevant supporting documents. English only. Plain alphabet file names only.

IV | Pay the India e-Visa fee

Fees vary by category and duration. A 3% bank transaction charge applies additionally. All fees are non-refundable once submitted.

V | Receive your ETA and prepare to travel

Your approved India e-Visa ETA arrives by email as a PDF. Print a physical copy and carry it to India. Confirm your status reads 'GRANTED' at the India Visa portal before flying. Never travel on a pending status.

What Every Brazilian Applicant Must Know Before Flying | Critical Guidelines

Entry points | airports, seaports, and land borders

Your India e-Visa currently permits entry through 33 designated international airports, 33 designated seaports, or 4 designated land ports. Entry through any other crossing is not permitted. You may exit India from any authorized Immigration Check Post. Verify your entry point against the authorized India entry and exit ports list before confirming your travel bookings.

Apply at least 2–3 weeks before your travel date

India e-Visa processing currently averages 8–10 business days despite the official 72-hour window. The 30-day e-Tourist Visa can be submitted up to 30 days in advance; all other categories accept applications up to 120 days ahead.

A granted India visa does not guarantee entry

An approved ETA authorizes travel, it does not guarantee entry. Immigration officers at the arrival port retain full discretion. Carry your printed ETA, a confirmed return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds for your stay.

Complete the e-Arrival Card before boarding

As of April 2026, all travelers entering India must complete a digital e-Arrival Card within 72 hours before arrival — via the official portal or the Indian Visa Su-Swagatam app. Complete it before you fly. On arrival, biometrics will be captured and your passport stamped. Ensure the immigration stamp is affixed before leaving the counter — if missed, contact the nearest FRRO immediately.

Stay within your India visa's declared purpose

Activities must strictly match your declared visa category. Business on an India e-Tourist Visa, or tourism on an India e-Business Visa, violates conditions and can result in denial of entry or deportation from India.

Extension and conversion of India Visa

India e-Visas are non-extendable and non-convertible. If genuinely unable to depart within your visa's validity due to an emergency, apply for an extension online at indianfrro.gov.in before expiry. Overstaying without approval is an illegal overstay under Indian immigration law. For long-term purposes like employment, study, research, exit India and apply through the Embassy of India in Brasília.

Other restrictions applicable to all India e-Visa holders

  1. Defence, military, security, or police background holders are not eligible for an India e-Visa, apply through the Indian Mission.
  2. All foreign nationals are prohibited from religious preaching, distributing religious material, or any conversion-related activity regardless of India visa type.
  3. If you have visited a Yellow Fever endemic country within 6 days of arriving in India, carry a valid vaccination certificate. Failure to produce it may result in quarantine of up to 6 days on arrival.
  4. Parts of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh require a Protected Area Permit in addition to your India e-Visa, Apply for this separately in advance.

Pakistani lineage

Brazilian nationals whose parents or grandparents were born in or were permanently resident in Pakistan are not eligible for an India e-Visa and must apply through the Indian Mission.

Same passport rule

Travel on the exact passport used to apply. If renewed since applying, carry both old and new passports to Indian immigration without exception.
