Are Mexican Citizens Eligible for an India e-Visa?

India e-Visa for Mexican Citizens - Everything You Need Before You Fly to India!

Two of the world's great ancient civilizations, separated by an ocean. Mexico gave the world the Aztec and Maya empires, the Pyramid of the Sun, and one of the most layered cultural identities on earth. India gave the world the Indus Valley civilization, Mughal architecture, Vedic philosophy, and a scale that continues to surprise even well-travelled visitors.

For Mexican travelers, India is one of those rare destinations that genuinely delivers on the expectation of something different.

Before it does, there is one step to complete. Mexican passport holders require an India Visa before entering India and here's exactly how to get it right.

Do Mexican Citizens Need a Visa for India?

Yes. Mexican nationals are not among the visa-exempt or visa-on-arrival nationalities for India, but they are eligible for an India e-visa, which requires no embassy visit. Your India e-Visa must be applied for online and confirmed before you depart, no exceptions.

The process is entirely digital. Apply at the official Indian government portal, pay the fee, and your Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) arrives by email.

OCI cardholders holding a Mexican passport are fully exempt from the India visa requirement. If you hold an OCI card, you do not need to apply.

Diplomatic and official passport holders are not eligible for an India e-Visa and must apply through the Indian Mission in Mexico City.

India e-Visa Categories Available to Mexican Nationals

The official Indian e-Visa portal lists nine categories. The three most relevant to Mexican travelers — and their key details — are:

For other categories, six further options exist under the e-Visa scheme:

  1. e-Student Visa for enrolment at a recognized Indian institution
  2. e-Conference / e-Ayush visa for short-term wellness treatment under Ayurveda, Yoga, or Naturopathy — relevant given how many Polish travelers come specifically for retreats
  3. e-Transit visa for a break in a longer journey rather than a standalone visit
  4. e-Film visa for accredited production crews
  5. e-Miscellaneous visa for permitted purposes that don't fit the other categories
  6. e-Entry visa covers a small share of Polish applications compared to Tourist, Business, and Medical.

If your trip doesn't fit the three main categories, check requirements through IVC Visas before assuming the Tourist category will cover it, applying under the wrong category is one of the more common causes of rejection.

⚠️ One rule across all categories: None of these can be extended or converted once granted. Choosing the wrong category is one of the most common and costly mistakes; the fee is non-refundable if a mismatch causes rejection. Applicants from Argentina, Belgium, Cuba, and other eligible nationalities face the same risk. Choose your category carefully, or let IVC Visas confirm it for you before you apply.

How Much Does an Indian e-Visa Cost for Mexican Citizens?

This is one of the most searched questions about the India e-Visa process — and one the existing page doesn't answer directly. Here are the confirmed figures.

India e-Tourist Visa 30 days: $10

India e-Tourist Visa 30 days: $25

India e-Tourist Visa 1 year: $40

India e-Tourist Visa 5 years: $200

India e-Business Visa: $120

India e-Medical Visa: $80

India e-Medical Attendant Visa: $80

India e-Conference Visa: $80

A 3% bank transaction charge applies to all card payments on top of every category, per the official government portal. This is added automatically at checkout and is non-refundable alongside the visa fee once the application is submitted.

All visa fees are non-refundable once submitted — approved or rejected. Confirm current figures before paying.

What will be the requirements for Mexican Applicants?

1. Valid Ordinary Mexican Passport

At least 6 months' validity remaining from your India arrival date, with at least 2 blank pages for immigration stamps. Diplomatic and official passport holders are not eligible for the India e-Visa and must apply through the Embassy of India in Mexico City directly. If your current passport was issued within the last 6 months, carry your previous passport to India as well.

2. Scanned Passport Bio Page

Color PDF, 10 KB–300 KB, all details clearly legible, including the MRZ line at the bottom. Blurry or partially cropped scans pass the upload check but fail manual review — a common cause of silent rejection.

3. Recent Passport Photograph

JPEG format, 10 KB–1 MB, plain white background, no glasses, taken within 6 months. File name must be in plain alphabets only — no numbers, spaces, or special characters. Photo non-compliance is one of the top three rejection triggers across all nationalities.

4. Supporting Documents (where applicable)

  1. India e-Business Visa: Business card and an invitation letter from the Indian company or organization, in English
  2. India e-Medical Visa: Appointment or admission letter from the Indian hospital, on official hospital letterhead, in English

Documents in Spanish or any other language will not be accepted, regardless of how official they appear.

5. Valid Email Address

Your approved ETA is delivered here and nowhere else. A single typo means it goes nowhere — or to someone else entirely.

6. Card for Payment

Credit or debit card required at checkout. A 3% bank transaction charge applies on top of the visa fee. All fees are non-refundable once submitted.

How to Apply with IVC Visas?

Step 1 | Choose either normal or express service, based on how early you want your ETA to arrive. If you want to fill out the application yourself, we can help to review and guide you through. Otherwise, IVC will do the whole job on your behalf.

Both services include a pre-submission photo and document check.

Step 2 | Complete the application form by filling in your nationality, visa category, travel dates, and passport details. Every name, number, and date must match your Mexican passport exactly.

Step 3 | Upload relevant documents in English only. Plain alphabet file names only; no spaces, symbols, or special characters.

Step 4 | Pay the India e-Visa fee. IVC lets you know the fee at checkout, but you may confirm through the official website or with IVC before payment.

Step 5 | Once the process is done, we submit the application and provide you with an application ID to track the status.

Your approved ETA arrives by email as a PDF. Print it. Confirm status reads 'GRANTED' on the official portal before flying.

Apply at least 2–3 weeks before travel as processing averages 8–10 business days.

Critical Guidelines Before You Board

  1. Entry and Exit ports: As of now, 33 designated airports, 33 designated seaports, or 4 designated land ports are stated as the authorized entry ports . No other crossing is permitted. Check the official authorized ports list before confirming your route. Exit is permitted through any port.
  2. e-Arrival Card: It is a mandatory digital card that must be completed within 72 hours before arrival via the official portal or the Indian Visa Su-Swagatam app — before boarding, not at the airport.
  3. Visa grant ≠ guaranteed entry: Carry printed ETA, your passport, return ticket, accommodation proof, and sufficient funds. Immigration officers retain full discretion. Only India e-visa solely is not enough.
  4. Non-extendable and non-convertible: India e-Visas cannot be extended. If unable to depart within validity, apply at FRRO before expiry. Business activity on a tourist visa is a violation and grounds for denial of entry.
  5. Pakistani lineage: Mexican nationals whose parents or grandparents were born in or were permanently resident in Pakistan are not eligible for an India e-Visa. You must apply through the Embassy of India in Mexico City.
  6. Other restrictions: Defence and military background holders are ineligible for an India e-visa. Religious conversion activity is prohibited on all visa types. Yellow Fever endemic country transit within 6 days of arrival requires a valid vaccination certificate. There are certain restricted areas in India that you can enter with an India e-visa in hand.

From Mexico City to India - One Application Away

📅 When to Visit?

October to March is the recommended window for most of India. During this period, North India — Delhi, Agra, Rajasthan — is at its most comfortable for travelers arriving from Latin America. April onward brings extreme heat across the north (regularly 40°C+), and the monsoon runs from June through September across most of the country.

What Mexican Travelers Tend to Find?

The two civilizations don't share a historical connection, but they share something perhaps more useful for travel: a comfort with density, colour, street food, and ancient sites that have remained living rather than museumified. Mexican travelers consistently report that India's market culture, its layered history visible in the streets rather than behind glass, and its food — varied by region to a degree that rivals Mexico itself — lands differently than it does for travelers from less culinary-diverse countries.

The Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur is where most first-visit itineraries begin and remains the most efficient way to encounter the scale of Mughal and Rajput history in a manageable circuit. Varanasi's Ganges ghats, Kerala's backwaters, and Rishikesh's Himalayan foothills are common additions for travelers with more than two weeks.
